Volunteer F.A.Q.

We appreciate your interest in volunteering at the Fredericksburg SPCA. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about our volunteer program in order to give you insight about how we operate:

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How can I get involved?

The Fredericksburg SPCA is currently accepting volunteers, and we would love to have you! Volunteers are an important part of every department at our shelter, and opportunities to serve are numerous and varied – from socializing dogs and cats, laundry, donation sorting, development assistance, outreach at events and more.

  1. What are the requirements to volunteer?

The only requirement is a desire to join our team. Volunteers are required to be 16 years of age or older to come in independently, however, there is no age requirement to complete service work alongside a parent or guardian.

We ask that all of our volunteers complete 4 service hours with us each month in order to stay active in our system. You can complete these hours at your convenience. Please note we are in need of volunteers seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our scheduling is flexible!

  1. What is the first step to get started?

The first step is to fill out our only inquiry form. Our Volunteer Coordinator will respond to you with general information about our program, and a list of upcoming new volunteer information sessions. It is required to attend an information session and two subsequent training classes before beginning volunteer work. We have lots of opportunities to get started, and you can move as quickly through our process as your schedule allows. We’re easy to work with!

  1. What if I have a child, under the age of 16, that would like to volunteer, and I cannot volunteer with them?

If you have a middle school or high school aged¬†youth that would like to get involved, consider inquiring about our ¬†youth volunteer program. Students in this program will be learning more about animal welfare and will complete various activities and crafts. They’ll also get hands on experience working with the animals in our care. There is a fee associated with this program. To obtain an application, schedule and additional details, please email candifredspca@gmail.com.

  1. Are you part of a school or work or other group that’s interested in taking project?

We’d love to have you! Your volunteer project will be selected based on your groups size and availability, and you will receive project ideas from our list of greatest needs, as it’s appropriate for your individual group. Your service project will also include a tour of our facility and some time to interact with the pets in our care! Please email our Volunteer Coordinator at candifredspca@gmail.com with information about your group to get started.

  1. Do you accept court-ordered volunteers?

Unfortunately, at this time, we are not able to accept court ordered volunteers. However, you are welcome to volunteer here to complete other community service requirement hours, for school or another approved program.

Please email our Volunteer Coordinator at candifredspca@gmail.com with any additional questions you may have.
