We appreciate your interest in volunteering at the Fredericksburg SPCA. Here are some Frequently Asked Questions about our volunteer program in order to give you insight about how we operate:
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get involved?
The Fredericksburg SPCA is currently accepting volunteers, and we would love to have you! Volunteers are an important part of every department at our animal resource center, and opportunities to serve are numerous and varied – from animal care assistants, laundry, donation sorting, development assistance, outreach at events and more.
What are the requirements to volunteer?
The only requirement is a desire to join our team. Volunteers are required to be 16 years of age or older to come in independently, however, there is no age requirement to complete service work alongside a parent or guardian.
We ask that all of our volunteers complete 2 service hours with us each month for a minimum of 6 months. You can complete these hours at your convenience. Please note we are in need of volunteers seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Our scheduling is flexible!
What is the first step to get started?
The first step is to fill out our only inquiry form. To do this, click here. It is required to attend the In-Shelter training and tour prior to beginning volunteer work. We have lots of opportunities to get started, and we can’t wait for you to join our volunteer team!
What if I have a child, under the age of 16, that would like to volunteer, and I cannot volunteer with them?
If you have a middle school or high school aged youth that would like to get involved, consider our Reading Pals program and our At Home Projects.
Do you accept court-ordered volunteers?
Yes, on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the event and its surrounding circumstances. Community service volunteers are scheduled in the mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please click here. (https://fburgspca.org/communityservice/)
Do I have to complete the same initial training process to volunteer if I’ve worked at another animal center before?
Since most animal centers operate independently and have different protocols related to safety and animal care, we do require that you complete the same required classes as all new volunteers prior to starting your service at our organization.
Please email our Volunteer Coordinator: volunteer@Fredspca.org with any additional questions you may have.
