Adoptable Features

We’re trying something new here on the website – featurettes on one adoptable dog and cat currently at the shelter! Our inaugural picks are Apollo and Reika. Read on to find out more about them!

Apollo is a 3 year old white German Shepherd! He is highly intelligent, already knowing the “sit”, “down”, and “paw” commands among others. He is looking for a strong, experienced owner to bring out the best in him. He is an active boy that needs mental and physical stimulation to keep him satisfied. He would make a wonderful hiking, running, or walking buddy. He is always up for adventure!

Apollo does get along with other dogs his size with proper introduction. He really needs canine companions that are up to speed with him and doesn’t prefer the company of smaller animals.

Apollo has the best of both worlds. He can be very attentive and affectionate to his humans but also has the ability to be independent and do his own thing, without a constant need for attention. Apollo has a loyal spirit. Once you have formed a bond with him, he is staunch in his friendship. He may seem aloof when meeting new people but he really just prefers to observe before he jumps in to new relationships. Who can blame him? The shelter is no place for a guy like Apollo! There is a big, wide world out there waiting for him to explore. Won’t you please adopt him and take him on the adventure that is life with you?

Reika came to the SPCA in November of 2014! Unfortunately, sometimes when the staff arrives to the shelter in the morning, animals have been dumped heartlessly on our property overnight and we must attempt to piece together their story and help them write a new one! Reika is one such feline!

Reika seemed very frightened when we found her outside and was so grateful to come indoors! We used feline pheromone tools to help de-stress her and help her realize she was safe! She is affectionate, sweet, and laid-back. The perfect combination of traits! She would make a wonderful lap kitty to lounge, watch movies, and eat snacks with you! She is a 3.5 year old Domestic Shorthair – white with beautiful tabby patches. She is quite the looker!

Reika is housed in one of our “Cat Condos” here at the shelter with other kitty friends so we believe she’d do well in a home with other cats with proper introduction. Although, she’d probably be equally happy being the only kitty in your household as well. As long as she gets love and attention, she’ll be happy! Calling all cat lovers – Reika is the bee’s knees, please come visit her!

In addition, we must pay for shelter and we also provide medical care, socialization and most of all LOVE! Please become a sponsor to one of these animals in need of your help.
